Makes sense, right? All you have to do to swing is: Yes, that's right, there's Platforming in this game, oh joy! Here's a double-jump function that does almost nothing to improve on the single jump, except be necessary to grab ledges!.did I say grab ledges? I meant just-barely-grab-them-at-the-last-second or not at all! Fun! Oh wait, don't forget about the swinging mechanic you'll love this! There are big metal bars along the ceilings you sometimes need to traverse with your whip, the game's main weapon. The worst part about Darksiders 3? Platforming. Unfortunately, combat isn't the worst thing about this game. Not fun in a game where that's a problem. I'd say about half the enemies were chores due to the miss-timing issues with combat. The bad news is he will definitely be a place where you'll die, have to huff it back to get your lost soul-currency back, only to either face him or run by him every time. The good news is you don't face that enemy until one of the last bosses. Sword-and-shield weapons where it would ALWAYS BLOCK EVERYTHINGĪ Horn to both call in new enemies and to revitalize them with stronger attacksĪ miss-timed shield attack that would always come out of nowhere and take at least a quarter of your life away Lots of HP making it impossible to quick-kill ![]() Imagine an enemy that had the following attributes: No, the worst enemy by a mile would be the Phantom Guard Captain. The worst enemy by far wasn't a boss, or a mini-boss, or even an elite-style enemy. Even when I felt like I got the hang of it & was doing cinematic-style perfect dodges and destruction, eventually the wheels would fall off and two or three enemies would just tee-off on you and destroy you out of nowhere. I got the hang of it in this game but it never really connected well. I will admit I'm not a Dark Souls fan, but I've played Jedi: Fallen Order to understand parrying, dodging, etc. Overall I found the general gameplay to be "alright".just over "okay" but not quite to the level of "good." It's somewhat obvious that the development of the fighting gameplay was probably a sore point as the final product leaves a LOT to be desired. That's right - Darksiders 3 is, at it's core, a "Dark Souls-Lite" game where perfect dodging is the name of the game. For better or for worse, Darksiders 3 DID lean into a popular format of current video games - The Dark Souls-approach. The series is a nice deviation from the usual open-world fetch-quests or Battle Royale gaming that has taken over most of the popular gaming series as of late. To review: I thought Darksiders 1 was great, Darksiders 2 was really good, and haven't had a chance to play Darksiders Genesis. ![]() I just finished Darksiders 3 yesterday and wanted to talk about it while it was fresh in my mind.
